Below is every plan, a calculator, which plan I’d pick, and what to know about GST.
Prices are from grok.com/plans and xAI’s business page, viewed from New Zealand on 31 October 2026. The plans page shows NZD and says prices don’t include taxes or fees. The business page lists $30 with no currency, which I’ve treated as US dollars and converted at the European Central Bank reference rate for 30 October 2026 (US$1 = about NZ$1.77). xAI says prices can change, so check before you buy.

What is the X Subscription?
xAI has folded Grok and X Premium into one subscription with four tiers. Each one gives you Grok - Chat, Voice, Imagine for images and video, and Build for code - plus X benefits like a checkmark and fewer or no ads. Usage is a shared pool across all of it, and each tier is a multiple of Plus: Premium is 4x, Super 15x and Ultra 50x. Grok Bot, xAI’s always-on agent, and cloud agents and automations start at Premium. If you already pay for X Premium, you’re already on a Grok plan.

How much is Grok Business in NZ?
Grok Business is listed at $30 a user a month, which at the 30 October rate is about NZ$53 before GST, or NZ$61 with it. It is the only Grok plan with no training on your data, seat management and one bill, SOC 2 compliance, role-based access, user analytics, custom data retention, connectors to your tools and Grok Build. Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM directory sync, customer-managed encryption keys and a dedicated data plane, with no published price. xAI has branded the business product “SpaceXSI for Business”, so you may see that name at checkout.
Does xAI charge GST in NZ?
Under IRD’s rules for overseas suppliers of remote services, a supplier treats a NZ customer as not GST-registered unless the customer gives their GST number. xAI doesn’t publish how it handles NZ GST, so the figures with GST here are the listed price plus 15%. If you subscribe in the iPhone app instead, Apple sets its own NZD prices and includes GST. Ask your accountant how to code it in Xero - I’m an engineer, not a tax adviser.
How much does the Grok API cost?
The API is billed separately from the subscriptions, in US dollars per million tokens. On xAI’s model docs on 31 October 2026, Grok 4.7 was US$2 per million input tokens and US$6 per million output tokens, and the cheaper Grok 4.3 was US$1.25 and US$2.50, with higher rates for prompts over 200,000 tokens. Every X Subscription tier includes Grok API access, so check what your plan covers before you load credits.
Is Grok cheaper than ChatGPT and Claude?
At the bottom, yes: Grok Plus is about NZ$15 a month with GST, against NZ$40 for ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro. But Plus is an introductory tier, and the plan that matches those two - Premium, with the latest models and agents - is about NZ$69 with GST. For a team, Grok Business at about NZ$61 a seat is above a Claude Team or ChatGPT Business seat at about NZ$50. Every plan for the other two is in Claude pricing in NZ dollars and ChatGPT pricing in NZ dollars, and which one fits your business is in ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini or Grok Bot.
Picking a plan is the easy part. The value comes from connecting it to the way your business works. If you want an agent that works across your email, calendar and Xero while you’re busy, that’s my Grok Bot setup. If you’d rather start with Claude, it’s Claude setup for NZ businesses.
