Short answer: ChatGPT Plus costs US$20 a month, about NZ$35 before GST or NZ$40 with it, and NZ$39.99 if you subscribe in the iPhone app. Go is US$8 a month (about NZ$14), Pro is US$100, US$200 or US$500 a month (about NZ$176, NZ$352 or NZ$879), and a Business seat is US$20-25 a month (about NZ$35-44). Below is every plan in NZD, a calculator for your own numbers, how GST works for a New Zealand business, and which plan I’d pick.
Prices come from OpenAI, checked on 26 October 2026: the ChatGPT pricing page, the business pricing page, and OpenAI’s help articles on Plus, the Pro tiers and Business. The Go price is the US price from OpenAI’s Go launch post, which says Go is priced locally in some markets. OpenAI bills in NZD but only publishes a few NZD prices, so the main figures are US prices converted at the European Central Bank euro reference rates for 23 October 2026, the latest published when I checked, which put US$1 at about NZ$1.76. Where OpenAI does show an NZD price - in the NZ App Store and on its business page viewed from New Zealand - I show that too.

The GST column is for businesses that aren’t GST-registered, or that haven’t given OpenAI their GST number - see the GST section below. OpenAI’s own NZD prices sit close to the converted figures: the App Store’s NZ$39.99 for Plus matches a NZ$40 GST-inclusive conversion, and the business page’s NZ$33 yearly seat is about NZ$2 under a straight conversion of US$20.

How much is ChatGPT Plus in NZ?
ChatGPT Plus is US$20 a month: about NZ$35 before GST, or NZ$40 with 15% GST. Subscribe in the iPhone app instead and the NZ App Store charges NZ$39.99 a month, GST included. On the web, Plus is monthly only - OpenAI says there’s no yearly Plus plan and no way to pay months in advance - so there’s no discount for committing.
What does each ChatGPT plan include?
Free
Unlimited text chats with GPT-6 (within OpenAI’s abuse limits), plus limited uploads, image creation, voice, deep research, memory and Codex. Enough to find out whether ChatGPT suits the way you work.
Go
Everything in Free with more messages, uploads, image creation and voice chats, longer memory and scheduled tasks. It leaves out the main GPT-6 reasoning models (you get the smaller GPT-5 Thinking Mini), and OpenAI says Go may include ads. Fine for personal use; most business owners will want Plus.
Plus
Everything in Go plus the GPT-6 reasoning models, more messages and uploads, expanded deep research and memory, projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs, Codex, and ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile. This is the plan most individual business owners should be on.
Pro
Everything in Plus with Pro reasoning, longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions, maximum memory and deep research, and early features. It comes in three monthly tiers: Pro 100 (US$100), Pro 200 (US$200, more usage) and Pro 500 (US$500, the most usage and the only tier with Ultrafast models). It’s for people who work in ChatGPT all day and keep hitting Plus’s limits.
Business
For teams, from 2 seats. Standard seats get ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex; premium seats get 5x the usage of a standard seat with no 5-hour limit, and you can mix the two. Business adds a shared workspace, SAML single sign-on, central billing and admin, connectors to Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack and GitHub, usage analytics and spend controls, and no training on your business data by default. You can bill monthly or yearly and buy credits for usage past the included limits. OpenAI pitches it at teams of 2 to 200, and registered nonprofits can get up to 75% off.
Enterprise and Edu
Enterprise has no published price - you talk to OpenAI’s sales team, and pricing can be credit-based or token-based. It adds SCIM, enterprise key management, role-based access, custom data retention, data residency, 24/7 priority support and invoicing. ChatGPT Edu is a separate plan for universities, also through sales.
How much is ChatGPT Business in NZ?
A standard ChatGPT Business seat costs about NZ$44 a month billed monthly, or about NZ$35 a month billed yearly, before GST (US$25 or US$20). OpenAI’s business page, viewed from New Zealand, shows the yearly standard seat as NZ$33 a month. A premium seat is about NZ$220 monthly or NZ$176 yearly before GST (US$125 or US$100), shown as NZ$165 a month billed yearly. Business needs at least 2 seats in total, so a five-person business on yearly standard seats pays about NZ$176 a month before GST at the converted rate.
Does OpenAI charge GST in NZ?
Under IRD’s rules for overseas suppliers of remote services, a supplier should treat a NZ customer as not GST-registered unless the customer says they are or gives their GST number. So if you aren’t registered - for example because you turn over less than NZ$60,000 a year - expect to pay the GST-inclusive price.
If your business is registered, add your GST number in ChatGPT’s billing settings: Settings, then Billing, for a personal plan, or Workspace settings, then Billing, for Business. OpenAI says a Tax ID only applies to future invoices, and an invalid one can be removed and tax charged. Its help centre doesn’t spell out NZ GST, or whether its NZD web prices include it, so check your first invoice, and ask your accountant how to code it in Xero - I’m an engineer, not a tax adviser.
One trap: the App Store price already includes GST and is billed by Apple, not OpenAI. If you want an OpenAI invoice with your GST number on it, subscribe on chatgpt.com rather than in the app.
Does ChatGPT charge in NZ dollars?
Yes. OpenAI lists the New Zealand dollar as a supported billing currency for plans bought on chatgpt.com, and subscriptions bought in the iPhone or Android app are charged in NZD by Apple or Google. Paying in NZD means the price doesn’t move with the exchange rate each month, though some banks still add a fee on payments to overseas businesses. If you already pay in US dollars, OpenAI says you stay on that currency until you cancel and subscribe again.

- Just trying it: start on Free, and move to Plus once you’re using it every day.
- Sole trader or one-person business: Plus. Go is cheaper but leaves out the main GPT-6 reasoning models and may show ads. Only move to Pro 100 if you regularly hit the usage limits.
- A team of 2 or more: Business with standard seats, and premium seats only for the heaviest users. Pay yearly if you’re sure - it saves US$5 a month on each standard seat. If staff will use ChatGPT with client or customer information, Business’s admin controls and no-training default are the main reason to choose it over a handful of personal Plus accounts.
- A larger organisation with compliance requirements: Enterprise, if you need SCIM, data residency, custom data retention or invoicing instead of a credit card.

Not at the levels most NZ businesses buy - the list prices match. ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro are both US$20 a month - and both come to about NZ$40 a month including GST for one person - and a ChatGPT Business seat and a Claude Team seat are both US$25 monthly or US$20 billed yearly. The differences are at the edges: ChatGPT has a cheaper Go plan and a US$500 Pro tier, Claude has a yearly Pro option, and the two Enterprise plans are priced differently. Every Claude plan is broken down in Claude pricing in NZ dollars.
Since the price is the same, choose on what each one does once it’s connected to your business. I compare them side by side, including Xero, Microsoft 365 and privacy, in Claude vs ChatGPT for NZ business.
Picking a plan is the easy part. The value comes from setting it up properly: the right plan and privacy settings, connected to your email, calendar and the tools you already use, with your team shown how to use it. If you’re on ChatGPT, that’s my ChatGPT training; if you’re moving to Claude, it’s Claude setup for NZ businesses.
