How the numbers are worked out
No hidden assumptions. Two lines of arithmetic, both using the figures you typed in:
- Full-time equivalent =
people x % of their time. Ten people spending 15% of their week on a task is 1.5 FTE. - Annual cost =
FTE x average salary. It is the salary bill for that share of the time, so it excludes on-costs like KiwiSaver, ACC, software and overheads. Treat the result as a floor, not a ceiling.
The “with AI” figure is whatever percentage you set in the second slider. It is your estimate of how much of the task would still need a person, not a claim about any particular tool. In our own work, the honest range on document and admin tasks is usually somewhere between a half and a third of the original time, and never zero, because someone still checks the output.
