Nudge: AI runs the conversation, code makes the call

Nudge is a free KiwiSaver advice portal for Staffords Wealth Management, a Christchurch financial adviser. An AI assistant walks people through the questions in plain language. The risk scoring, the paperwork and the final say stay with plain code and a licensed adviser.

The brief

Staffords wanted a web-based KiwiSaver advice portal powered by a conversational AI assistant: one that guides people through the full advice journey, produces a Statement of Advice and helps with identity verification.

For advice, we kept the recommendation out of the AI's hands. The build splits the work cleanly between what the AI does well - the conversation - and what has to be deterministic and reviewable.

What we built

The conversation

An AI assistant that asks, not advises

  • Guides people through the questions in plain language
  • Shows a personalised projection of their KiwiSaver balance
The decision

Risk scoring in plain code

  • The risk profile is scored by fixed rules, not by the AI
  • Scores map to funds the same way every time
The paperwork

Statement of Advice and ID checks

  • The Statement of Advice is generated as a PDF from a fixed template and emailed
  • Identity verification through RealAML, including face matching
The adviser

A person signs off

  • An adviser dashboard, protected by multi-factor sign-in and an allowlist
  • A licensed adviser reviews before anything is actioned

The AI never picks a fund.

Building for a regulated industry?

Advice, finance, compliance. We build AI that does the conversation and the admin, and leaves the decisions where they belong.
